Savitribai Phule Pune University, India
About
This university offers a part of the MA programme Euroculture, namely a Research Track in the third semester for European Euroculture students.
Savitribai Phule Pune University, situated on a campus of 411 acres, is one of the largest state universities in India and has been identified as one of the 5 Indian “Universities with Potential for Excellence” by the University Grants Commission (UGC), the central nodal agency of the Government of India that looks after all affairs related to higher learning. Pune boasts some of the oldest Colleges of Higher Learning established in the 19th century. Affiliated initially to the University of Mumbai (Bombay), they formed the core of the new University of Pune inaugurated in 1954. Its peculiarity is that the ancient Indian tradition of learning is as much at home here as the new disciplines are.
The concept of specialized research Centers and Schools enable the University to deal with newer and multidisciplinary areas not included in the traditional scheme of Degree Courses. The University consists of 13 Faculties, 58 University Departments/Schools/Centres, and 433 affliated Colleges and 232 recognized institutions. A salient feature of the University is the large number of foreign students, about 10.000 from 85 countries, i.e. comprising about 40% of all foreign students in India.
